I think it's high time for a new tradition here at Rockhoppers Daily Grind. Comic Tuesday begins today!
I'm a huge fan of comics, but not the comic books you find at the bookstore: the kind of comics you find on the internet. There are so many excellent comics, it's hard to pick a favorite.
I'll kick off Comic Tuesday with one of my all-time favorites. Girl Genius started back in November of 2002, so it's coming up on a 5-year anniversary. The artists, Phil and Katja Foglio, are well-known fantasy artists, with long-running series in Dragon Magazine and elsewhere.
Girl Genius doesn't spoon-feed all the action to you, you have to figure things out yourself. It is the story of a girl, a "spark", who is inherently a mechanical genius. She may (or may not) be related somehow to a notorius family. The predicaments and adventures she has are amusing and continually interesting. The story also veers off into wild directions at times. This strip starts a short (unfinished) separate storyline with the same characters. This days posting is, well, a poster! The poster gave me the idea for Comic Tuesday here at Rockhoppers Daily Grind.
Girl Genius is particularly well drawn, and the story is interesting. It's now developed into several book-length graphic novels. The best part is that you can read it all, from start to finish, for free on the Internet.
