For years, I thought Brooke McEldowney was a woman. His comic, 9 Chickweed Lane, has three generations of women as it's main characters, and features their insights and viewpoints. However, Brooke is a man, but he does have a wife and two daughters, so that's probably the source of his insight. He maintains a blog, here.
9 Chickweed Lane is one of my favorite comics, and has been for all 15 years of it's run so far. Syndicated by United Features, 9 Chickweed Lane is carried by comics.com, so be prepared for the usual visual clutter and limited archive. Still, the comic is well-written, nicely drawn, and regularly stretches the boundaries of the medium. There's also a strong sense of the surreal, and a long-running, coherent plot -- something missing in a lot of comics.
As you know, I'm a big fan of animals in comics, and Brooke regularly features Solange the cat in a comic-within-the-comic. Called "Hallmarks of Felinity", I just found a web compilation of this series. What a great resource! Enjoy.
