Local Glass Artist

Callahan McVay lives and works just up the road from Rockhoppers. He has a big old truck parked at the end of his driveway that says 'Distinctive Marker'. That, and the various art glass pieces decorating the place are sure indications that this place is home to an artist.

Callahan's work is very colorful, and wonderfully formed. He has a wealth of experience in glass work, and it shows in his pieces. He's represented in several galleries, and has a website of his own.

Callahan's work makes me sad that we only carry folk art. It would be great to carry some of his pieces, but glass art requires so many years of training and encompasses such a wide latitude of styles and forms that it rarely qualifies as folk art.

Here's a video of Callahan discussing and demostrating glass art.

Took a glass blowing class in college. First lesson was never to suck in when you're trying to get that first bubble going... It'll send you right to the hospital, and then to the graveyard.

Dangerous, but lotsa fun.
