For some reason, Rene passed on seeing this movie with me tonight. I know why: she hates the genre of satirical farces, particularly when the humor promises to be sophomoric. I, on the other hand, revel in this type of movie.
Walk Hard didn't disappoint. When performing satire, it's difficult to keep the tone light, especially when the subject matter becomes dark. There's plenty of dark material here, but the filmmakers get things right, for the most part. I laughed out loud throughout the film, and truly enjoyed the many cameos and visual jokes.
This movie isn't for everyone, but if you enjoy this type of film, you would be hard pressed to find a better one. John C. Reilly does an amazing job, and the production is tight and well-shot. The supporting cast is clearly loving their work, and the music is quite good, if silly at times (appropriately). I think the DVD will be great.
Movies on Whidbey Island.
