Unlike Seth Rogen's other films, Pineapple Express never really grabbed me. I felt the scriptwriting and the acting was sub-par, and while there were many funny bits, the movie as a whole was too cluttered with violence, stupidity, gross humor, and un-funny bits to gel into solid comedy.
The action was both gritty and fantastic, at times, and the location shooting was very realistic. The best part of the movie was the comedic car chase -- James Franco was very cool. This one might be better on DVD, it's entirely possible that there is a better movie surrounding what we saw -- a movie that ended up on the editing room floor. As it is, however, I can only give it a Shot in the Dark. I laughed, and enjoyed it, but it was stupid, and not funny-stupid, either.
